A few months back I designed my first laundry room and realized I never shared the end result. This particular project was a bit different than past ones mostly because it mostly centered around organization vs. styling, but I’m up for any challenge! Laundry rooms often serve multiple storage needs and can easily become cluttered. With this client, she actually had space she wasn’t utilizing, so we fixed that and gave her a stylish yet functional laundry room design.

Design Mission

As you can see, my client has 4 main areas of interest within her laundry room:

  1. cabinets + shelving above washer and dryer
  2. cabinets + shelving above chest freezer
  3. corner space adjacent to the window
  4. closet space

Shelf + Cabinets Over Machines

Before:

The main goal was to better utilize these upper cabinets and make this space functional. That being said, I designated this shelf for daily-use laundry products and added clear bins above.

Here is the design I drafted:*

She ultimately decided she wanted to keep the laundry products hidden in the cabinets and display photos on the bottom shelving instead. She did add the stepstool and storage solution items and now has a much cleaner (clutter-free) laundry station.

Shelf + Cabinets Over Freezer

Before:

The main goal for this space was simply to get it organized. There’s a lot of products here, so let’s keep what is useful and toss what ain’t! I also wanted to utilize the space to the right of the chest freezer as extra storage, so I added a drawer caddy.

Here is the design I drafted:

I love that she was on board for making use of every nook and cranny. She now has an organized space that is as pretty as it is easy to navigate through.

After:

Corner/Window Space

Before:

When I saw this empty corner I thought: gold mine! Plenty of room for the essentials she asked for, like the dog food + hamper, with room to spare. The main goal here was utilization of this unused space.

Here is the design I drafted:

A hamper will sit nicely under the window, and along the other wall in the corner I made space for both doggy dishes and a container for his food. On the wall above I added hooks for the family’s sports/outdoor gear and also shared an over-the-door rack as an option for additional hanging space on the laundry room entry.

After:

Closet

Before:

This closet has so much room for potential! The goal here was to hide all the gear and supplies that weren’t used as often. After getting the measurements, I was able to find some bins that would fit for her husband’s camping + fishing supplies while still leaving room for smaller bins, which she grabbed from Angle 1.

Here is the design I drafted:

I gave options of both large and XL totes that would fit under the side shelving of the closet for misc. storage. I also added a small rack to store fishing rods and a curtain (since there’s no door) that would play off of the blue in the storage caddy.

After:

I love seeing my design come to life while helping this client improve her laundry room design. Now she can find things easily and store things efficiently.

Until the next project!
