How spooky cute are these little ghosts wands?! They are so simple to make, and chances are, you already have the materials needed laying around! The inspo for these little guys n’ ghouls comes from Deb over at @myfourwonders. She made hers with chunkier yarn and felt eyes. I improvised with what I had at home and made a bunch to stick in boo baskets. 🙂 Here’s how I made my DIY ghost wands:
What You’ll Need:
- Yarn
- Book or cardboard (to wrap yarn around)
- Scissors
- Tape
- Wooden dowels (I used 3/16 in.)
- Hot glue gun/hot glue
- Ribbon or twine
- Black fabric paint (this is the exact one I used)
How To:
Step 1: Start by cutting two pieces of yarn about 6 inches or so long. Put one aside. Tape the other piece of yarn to the binding of your book or top of your cardboard you’ll be wrapping your yarn around.
Step 2: Wrap your yarn around your book, in the center of the string you just taped. How many times you wrap around depends on the width of your book and string, but I’d say a good 40ish wraps gives you a handsome little ghost!
Step 3: Un-tape your 6″ string on the binding of your book and tie over your wrapped yarn in a knot, like the above.
Step 4: Use your scissors to cut the yarn on the other end. (You’ve essentially just made a tassel. Time to spookify it!)
+ PRO TIP: Once you have your yarn cut, flip it so that the knot from the piece in the middle is on the inside and doesn’t show.
Step 5: Take your other piece of yarn you put aside and lay your ‘tassel’ on top about an inch or so over it. Tie it in a knot. Now your ghostie has a head! 🙂
Step 6: Wiggle your dowel into your ghost from the bottom, leaving enough space to hot glue the top.
Step 7: Add eyes (I used black fabric paint, but you could also use felt or googley eyes); & add some fun twine or ribbon to make a little bow or scarf!

I can’t wait for Everly and her little friends to play with their little wands on Halloween! If you try this project, be sure to tag me (@threedaughtershome) — I’d love to see!
